This is the site you’re reading right now. It’s my personal home on the web: a landing page, a blog about Linux and self-hosting, this portfolio, and an about page. It replaced an older WordPress site, and moving to a static Hugo build made it faster, simpler to maintain, and something I fully control end to end.
I built it from scratch rather than starting from a theme, writing the Go templates and SCSS by hand so the layout and type are exactly what I wanted. It’s a clean production build with no trackers, served as static files by nginx on my own VPS, and I deploy it with a single script that builds the site and rsyncs it to the server.
What I did
- Built the site from scratch in Hugo, hand-writing the templates and styles instead of using an off-the-shelf theme
- Split the content into a landing page, a blog, this portfolio, and an about page
- Migrated off an older WordPress site to a static build for speed and maintainability
- Kept it tracker-free and self-hosted, served by nginx on my own VPS
- Wrote a one-command deploy that does a clean production build and rsyncs it to the server
