Nanny Goat Pottery is the shop of Nancy, a teacher-turned-potter in Ouray, Colorado. She had an aging Weebly site, and I rebuilt it from scratch as a WordPress and WooCommerce store on a custom block theme, then hosted it on my own infrastructure.
The design is quiet and photography-forward: airy layouts, serif type, and very little motion, so the pots are the thing you look at. I built it as a Full Site Editing block theme with the design tokens living in theme.json, self-hosted fonts so there are no third-party CDN calls, and a small layer of custom CSS and JavaScript for the pieces the block editor can’t express on its own. The store launched in catalog mode, with products visible while Nancy finalizes pricing and a payment processor.
What I did
- Rebuilt the site from an old Weebly page into a WordPress and WooCommerce store
- Built a custom Full Site Editing block theme, with all design tokens defined in theme.json
- Self-hosted the fonts so the site makes no third-party font-CDN requests
- Added the custom behavior WooCommerce doesn’t ship with: an editable shop-update banner, sold-out badges, product-image hover swaps, and a newsletter popup
- Configured transactional email through a Gmail SMTP relay so order and account mail sends reliably
- Launched in catalog mode and host the site on my own server
